The new law on fees for air pollution from the workshop of the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic (M\u017dP SR) aims to motivate air polluters to gradually reduce emissions. The draft law was approved by 86 deputies in the National Council today. After more than twenty years, the new legislation sets fairer charging for the release of pollutants into the air. At the same time, the law has the ambition to be a strong economic and motivational tool for achieving the goals set in the field of air protection in accordance with the 2030 Envirostrategy and the program statement of the government. Through the law, the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic also wants to prevent preventable deaths due to polluted air. In Slovakia, 5,000 people die prematurely every year as a result of air pollution. The new legislation increases the rates of basic fees in such a way that their amount takes into account the negative effects of the release of pollutants into the air and motivates air polluters to further reduce emissions. The new law proposes increasing the fee rate so that it doubles by 2030. From 2031, the fees will increase annually according to the amount of inflation. According to the Minister of the Environment, J\u00e1n Budaj, the law will reduce the administrative burden for operators of pollution sources and simplify the payment of fees for air pollution. Increases the threshold of the minimum rate for the emergence of a fee obligation. While until now the obligation to pay fees for air pollution arose for all companies whose emissions exceeded the equivalent of 34 euros, now only those companies that emit emissions worth 500 euros will have the obligation to pay for air pollution.\u00a0"With this measure, we will reduce the burden on small companies.
