The report maps how future generations of children could suffer different health consequences under different global warming scenarios. Researchers focused on one health problem that has already affected generations of Connecticut children: asthma. Under the most severe scenario of 4 degrees Celsius of warming compared to pre-industrial levels, the EPA found that Connecticut children could suffer one of the highest rates of asthma-related emergency department visits in the country. Jeremy Martinich, who co-authored the report and is chief of the EPA&#039;s Science and Impacts Division, said plant growing seasons and pollen seasons will get longer as a result of global warming. Air pollution also increases stress for children with asthma, he said. &quot;We know that parts of the country like Connecticut that are experiencing air quality problems today can expect this increase in pollen from climate change to have even greater health effects on children in the future,&quot; Martinich said.
