The C3S data was cited by the UN Secretary-General in a call for urgent action as two new reports detailing aspects of climate change are published.<\/p>\n<p>The global average temperature for May 2024 was 0.65 \u00b0C above the 1991\u20132020 average and 1.52 \u00b0C above the 1850\u20131900 pre-industrial average, marking the 11th consecutive month (since July 2023) in which the global average temperature reached or exceeded 1.5 \u00b0C above pre-industrial levels.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting a succession of record monthly temperatures, the global average temperature for the past 12 months (June 2023\u2013May 2024) is the highest on record, 0.75\u00b0C above the 1991\u20132020 average and 1.63\u00b0C above the 1850\u2013 1850. 1900 pre-industrial average, according to C3S data.
