There are two main types of carbon sequestration: biological (also called\u00a0<i>biological sequestration<\/i>) and geological. Biological carbon sequestration is a naturally occurring process as part of the carbon cycle. People can improve it by being intentional and using technology. Carbon dioxide is naturally captured from the atmosphere through biological, chemical and physical processes. These processes can be accelerated, for example, by changes in land use and agricultural practices, which are called carbon agriculture. Artificial processes have also been designed to produce similar effects. This approach is called carbon capture and storage.
