This conclusion was reached by assessing the &quot;emissions gap&quot; between various national climate protection plans and what is actually needed to achieve this goal. This unprecedented study found a gap of up to 3.2 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) between current global carbon removal plans and what is needed by 2050 to avoid the worst impacts of global warming, including heat waves, floods, droughts, melting ice and rising sea levels.
