The continued growth in the use of ESG ratings by investors, borrowers and issuers as part of their sustainable investment and financing decision-making processes means that ESG ratings can have a significant impact on the functioning of these markets.<\/p>\n<p>Regulators and policy makers have therefore focused more on the ratings themselves, as well as on their providers. ESG rating providers are currently not subject to authorization or supervision in the EU. In the absence of a regulatory framework, several problems began to emerge. These mainly related to the lack of transparency and accuracy of ESG evaluation methodologies, the existence of a conflict of interests and concerns about ecological laundering.
