When mysterious explosions damaged the Nord Stream gas pipeline between Russia and Germany in 2022, the resulting methane leaks were so large they could be seen from space. And for one company, they were particularly noteworthy: They helped demonstrate its technology for detecting emissions via satellite. GHGSat, which operates the largest collection of greenhouse gas monitoring satellites, has already developed the ability to detect methane leaks at sea because the gas has a much greater warming power than carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
