Representatives of the European Member States, the European Parliament and the Commission already agreed on the key points of the European Supply Chain Directive in the context of the trilogue procedure on 14 December 2023. This directive is intended to oblige companies in the EU to ensure environmental, sustainable and social standards throughout their value chains. This responsibility would affect the entire value chain upstream (resource extraction, production by suppliers) and downstream (processing by customers, disposal). Other content concerns the implementation of the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement in the companies concerned, e.g. by making managers' salaries dependent on the achievement of certain climate targets.<\/p>\n
The scope of the directive should cover European companies with more than 500 employees and a worldwide net turnover of \u20ac150 million per year and non-European companies with an annual turnover of \u20ac150 million within the EU.<\/p>\n
Companies with more than 250 employees and a global net turnover of more than \u20ac40 million should also fall within the scope, provided that at least half of this turnover comes from one of the listed "high-risk sectors" (textiles, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, raw materials production and trade).
