As global emissions of greenhouse gases (mainly carbon dioxide) continue to rise, so do global temperatures \u2013 with serious ecological consequences. Between 2011 and 2020, global surface temperatures rose an estimated 1.07 \u00b0C (2.01 \u00b0F) above the 1850\u20131900 average. At this rate, temperatures could increase further by 1.5 \u00b0C to 2 \u00b0C (2.7 \u00b0F to 3.6 \u00b0F), depending on whether we can reach net zero by 2050.
