Instruments deployed in the ocean since 2004\u00a0<\/span><span>show that the circulation of the Atlantic Ocean<\/span><span> over the last two decades\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span>noticeably slowed down<\/span><span>\u00a0, maybe on\u00a0<\/span><span>the weakest state in almost a millennium<\/span><span>\u00a0Studies also suggest that circulation reached its peak in the past.\u00a0<\/span><span>dangerous tipping point<\/span><span>\u00a0, which sent it into a sharp and unstoppable decline, and that it could hit this tipping point again as the planet warms and glaciers and ice sheets melt. <em>(<\/em><\/span><em>by Ren\u00e9 van Westen, Henk A.
