The United Nations has called 2020 the &quot;Decade of Action&quot; and set key targets (such as halving carbon emissions) to be achieved by 2030. But it&#039;s often hard to know what individuals and businesses can do to play their part.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>An interesting element of the climate change debate is that it is impossible to argue for change when there are uncertainties about the consequences for things like the environment. It is perhaps for this reason that at this stage the regulatory requirements to reduce emissions are a relatively light touch with relatively little change being required by the government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span>A stricter regulatory regime<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is clear that businesses should take some action, especially with the likelihood that the regulatory regime on environmental matters will become more stringent. Businesses currently have a choice between whether, how and to what extent they should reduce their emissions.
