Investments in renewable energy technologies reached a record $1.3 trillion last year, but this must rise to around $5 trillion a year to meet the Paris Agreement's key goal of limiting temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius ( 2.7 Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels, IRENA said. In total, the world needs about $35 trillion in transition technologies by 2030, including improved efficiency, electrification, expanding networks and flexibility, IRENA said. The use of renewable energy sources must increase from the current around 3,000 gigawatts per year to more than 10,000 GW in 2030, IRENA said, adding that greater equity in the expansion of renewables between industrialized and developing countries is needed. New renewable energy projects in China, the European Union and the United States accounted for two-thirds of installed capacity last year, while Africa accounted for only 1 % of installed renewable capacity.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Berlin, March 28 (TASR) \u2013 The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) said on Tuesday that global investment in energy transition technologies must more than quadruple each year to meet commitments made under the Paris climate agreement.
