We need better journalism to fight climate change

Let's start with something non-controversial: good decisions start with good information. Managing your finances starts with gathering information in a budget. If you play sports, you need feedback from your coach. Nutritional information on food packaging makes it easier to decide what to eat.

But there is one area of life where the connection between good information and good decisions has been broken: climate change.

There are many theories as to why this is so. Some blame the melodramatic messages of climate change activists. Some say our political system is not set up to deal with a truly global challenge. Some even say that the information base for making decisions about climate change is flawed, there is still a lack of scientific evidence that global warming is caused by human activity and that a rapidly changing climate is not causing untold damage.
