Climate change is already affecting human health today, for example through increasing heat waves or changing patterns of spread of infectious diseases. As Claudia Quitmann points out, hospitals play an important role in mitigating these impacts. At the same time, they themselves contribute to climate change because, among other things, greenhouse gas emissions arise from medicines and medical products that are used there. In her lecture, the speaker will discuss the role that hospitals play in adapting to climate change and how they can contribute to climate protection. Claudia Quitmann completed her medical studies in Aachen. At the Heidelberg Institute for Global Health, located at the Heidelberg Medical School and Heidelberg University Hospital, he is researching the development of sustainable and climate-resilient health systems as part of his doctoral thesis. Currently, among other things, he is working on a project of accounting for greenhouse gases for hospitals.
